The Young Early Music Festival is an initiative of the Horyzonty Sztuki Foundation. Its mission is to promote young artists and foster community through music. The picturesque Kashubian landscapes that serve as the festival’s backdrop offer an ideal setting for encounters between early music performers and local residents, who discover new dimensions of art through the festival.
We believe music and culture should be closer to people, which is why the festival takes place in small towns and villages that are usually beyond the reach of such cultural events. Each year, MMD continues to evolve its format: to reach an even broader audience, it combines early music with engaging, interactive activities – such as community dances, family workshops, and a public choir. Every edition is a unique opportunity to explore early music in new contexts and experience it in diverse ways.
The Young Early Music Festival has been organized since 2012, made possible through collaboration with local village councils, parishes, and institutions in the Kolbudy municipality, as well as with numerous partners and patrons. With accessibility in mind, past editions of the festival have partnered, among others, with the Support Centre in Marszewska Góra.
The festival is accompanied by OPEN CALL MMD – a competition for participation in an artistic residency dedicated to young musicians specializing in early music performance. Thanks to cooperation with partners such as the Kino Pomorzanin Foundation, Stara Papiernia Association, and the Oblate Centre for Education and Culture, the selected residents have the opportunity to perform not only at the festival itself but also in other cities across Poland. This provides them with valuable stage experience.
The Young Early Music Festival was nominated for the REMA AWARDS 2024 in the category “Best Support Programme for Young Artists” and received a distinction from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage – the Amber Sword 2024. Its 2024 edition was supported by an artistic grant awarded by the Mayor of the Kolbudy Municipality.
